History of the School

St. Mary's Primary School was established in 1991 by Kilimanjaro Contractors under the guidance of the late Fr. Linno Zicco (Comboni Missionary) with funds donated by the Christians of Piacenza, Italy. The original construction included eight classrooms, a home science room, a library, three offices, a waiting room, and ten pit latrines. The school became operational on January 7, 1992, with 70 pupils and three staff members: Sr. Silvina Akidi (Headmistress), Mrs. Mary Wambui Muchunga (Deputy Head Teacher), and Sr. Lydia Anyango (Teacher). On April 12, 1992, it was officially opened by Rt. Rev. Colin Davies, Bishop of Ngong' Diocese. That same year, additional funds from Piacenza facilitated the construction of two classrooms for Art and Craft. From 1996 to 2014, the school undertook various development projects without external donations. These included building eight additional classrooms, a basketball pitch, three garages, a kitchen, 12 flush toilets, and a paved path. The school also acquired three buses of varying capacities.
